Competition and Demonstration Jump Rope Team

SKIP WIZARDS

Levels

There are five levels of achievement as a Skip Wizard:

     Apprentice

Magicians
     Wizards
     Sorcerers
     Grand Sorcerers

Apprentice - Beginners
The "Apprentices" are usually first or second year jumpers.  They will learn:

All the basic level tricks

Simple double dutch, including entering and exiting

"12th Street Rag" and "Cadillac" group routines

Basic traveler

Basic long rope

A 30 second single freestyle with at least 10 tricks

The beginners will participate in at least 2 demonstrations (Probably the Pie Auction and the Jump Rope for Heart at Valley).  They can also participate in the Brunswick Veterans Parade.  Beginners must master all "Apprentice" criteria to move to "Magicians."  This move up must be completed before the Christmas break.

Magicians - Advanced Beginners
The "Magicians" are usually a second year member (in special cases a new member) who has mastered all of the Apprentice criteria and is working on completing the "Magicians Card" which includes:

Mastering intermediate tricks

A basic two wheel

Turning double dutch

Basic double dutch routines

A 45 second single freestyle with at least 15 tricks

2-3 group routines

A basic pairs routine with at least 15 tricks

Faster traveler, jump triangles, and umbrellas and turn thai

Passes single speed and double dutch tests

Working on this cars allows a jumper to participate in local shows and workshops.  They must complete 50% of the single section or double dutch session to compete in a National or Jr. Olympic qualifier for that event.  50% also qualifies the jumper to participate in the Jr. Olympic games but they must qualify in at least two events.  They must complete all blocks of this card to participate at Nationals and must qualify in at least two events and have competitive speed score (Using last year's National scores as a reference).

Wizards - Intermediate
Jumpers must complete all Apprentice and Magician's criteria including the Magician's card.  They will be working on "passing off" the Wizard's card which includes:

Mastering all intermediate level tricks and working on advanced tricks

Intermediate 2 or 3 wheel

Intermediate level double dutch routines

4-6 group routines

Turning long rope, squiggles, rainbow, Thai, etc.

45 second single routine intermediate level

Fast traveler

Intermediate pairs routine

Assisting younger jumpers

Passing single speed and double dutch tests

Working on this card will qualify the jumper to travel out of state to shows or competitions.  They must complete 50% of the top portion and 100% of the double dutch section to compete in Nationals, if qualified through Regional's (qualify in at least two events and have competitive scores).  This group will participate in most of the demonstrations.  The top performers in this group may qualify for the yearly incentive trip to be announced later in the year.

Sorcerers - Advanced
Jumpers must have mastered all Apprentice and Wizard criteria plus "passed off" the Wizard card.  The Sorcerers will work to complete the Sorcerers' card.  The Sorcerers' card includes:

Advanced tricks or advanced turning in double dutch

Advanced wheels (2,3 and 4 wheels)

Mastering some or all of the advanced tricks in pairs and single freestyle

Advanced level group routines

Turning traveler

Assisting younger jumpers

Passing single speed and double dutch tests

Completing 50% of this card will qualify the jumper to compete in the Nationals (again, they must qualify in at least two events and have competitive scores).  100% completion of this card will qualify the jumper to travel internationally (if the opportunity should arise).  Top performers in this group will be considered for the incentive trip to be announced later in the year.  This group will also qualify to be considered as a camp counselor.

January 25th will be the deadline for completing skill cards to qualify for the Regional Qualifiers.  All athletes must start again each season on the card they were working on at the end of the year.

Grand Sorcerers - Expert
This is our highest level.  Jumpers have mastered all Apprentice, Wizard, and Sorcerer skills and have completed their Sorcerers' card.
